The Facebook Group provides a "social forum" for injured, disgruntled, and angry RK, PRK, and LASIK refractive patients to speak about how they feel about how they've been treated by their physicians, how they have been ignored by the industry, and how they have been abandoned by their doctors and sales technicians that told them "they would love the procedure and how it would FREE them of contacts and glasses..."
What's very interesting about what these patients have to say has a common theme, common problem, and common concern. These concerns have been succinctly described as:
1. These patients feel the FDA has abandoned them, is corrupt, and that the FDA has no compassion for these patients, as if they work for the Ophthalmic Industry and are told what they can and can not do. In other words, there is no regulation nor policing of LASIK physicians by the FDA.
2. These patients feel that the LASIK industry has completely deceived them. They feel the LASIK industry has falsified safety studies (and continues to do so), and that even when they come in for a check up, the physicians lie to them that they are doing great when they continue to tell them that they are depressed, their lives have been turned upside down, and that they're having Dry Eye pain daily and that the dry eye drops are not helping them and that they can not see better after having LASIK but rather are seeing much worse!
3. These patients have several complaints that if they had known about the truths prior to having refractive surgery, they would NEVER HAVE HAD RK, PRK or LASIK permanent eye reshaping. Here are the main complaints that the patients are having:What's very interesting about what these patients have to say has a common theme, common problem, and common concern. Here's how many of patients are describing their "Post LASIK/PRK Refractive Vision:"
* DAILY DRY EYE PAIN THAT DOES NOT GO AWAY.
* DAILY LOSS OF CONTRAST ACUITY OF VISION.
* A PERMANENT LASIK FLAP/PRK/RK SCAR TO SEE THROUGH DAILY.
* PERMANENT THINNING OF THE COREA WHICH INDUCES PERMANENT
* DEPRESSION FROM LOSS OF QUALITY OF VISION THAT CAN LEAD TO SUICIDE.
* LOSS OF INCOME...LOSS OF JOB...LOSS OF LIFESTYLE...LOSS OF LIFE.
* GHOSTING-STARBURSTS-DOUBLE VISION DUE TO THESE SURGERIES.
* INABILITY TO WEAR OR TOLERATE CONTACTS OR GLASSES.
* NO KNOWN CURES FOR DRY EYE OR POST REFRACTIVE VISUAL DISORDERS.
Just as recently as October 2014, the AAO submitted a presentation by the FDA, regarding safety and efficacy of LASIK, and the end result was that LASIK created about 35% of permanent damages and injuries (of which the FDA and LASIK industry instead uses the term Symptoms in place of Adverse Event or Permanent Injury as to not allow the public to get over worried about this procedure causing much damage):
Consumer Reports Survey Showed Basically The Same Results:
(45% of LASIK patients had side effects...41% regretted doing it)
